Jill Cowie
Academic Headmaster
Chemistry

Jill is from Scotland and has a BSc and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh. She also has an MSc in Chemistry from the University of Aberdeen. She taught for 12 years in secondary schools in West Yorkshire after receiving her PGCE from the University of Leeds. During this period, she rose to Head of Department and became the first in her school to achieve Advanced Skills Teacher status. Jill has taught in several schools throughout China, including Nanjing Foreign Language School. Here, in conjunction with the University of Warwick, she helped to set up a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Chinese nationals. From 2010-2013, she was a Lecturer in Science Education at the University of East Anglia; including a short spell as Director of the Secondary PGCE. Nominated for a UK National Teaching Award in 2000, Dr. Cowie was awarded Edexcel A-level Teacher of the Year in 2016. Her interests include travel, hill-walking and cycling.

Dr. Adam Allen

Dr. Allen comes from USA. He has over 10 years of combined science teaching experience. Following undergraduate studies in Biology and General Science, he was invited to come to China to be the first western student admitted to a provincial medical school. He loves to study Chinese and is comfortable communicating freely with colleagues and parents. He worked as a teacher for his alma mater and completed his first professional doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the West China School of Medicine of Sichuan University in 2011. He continued his teaching career as an Associate Professor of Anatomy at the Saint James School of Medicine in the Caribbean before returning to China with his family. As a university professor he was Head of the Anatomy and Embryology departments. He enjoys using his multinational experience to help his students prepare for their life abroad. In his spare time, he likes hiking, camping, swimming and reading.

Stephen Nganga

Stephen grew up in Kenya and earned his Diploma in teaching Mathematics, Physics and Physical Education. He then completed his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science. Stephen has been an educator for over 10 years in International Schools. He has a wide range of experience in both the British and IB Curriculum and has served as Head of Department (Mathematics). In his spare time, he loves to run, play football and experience new technology.

Nicholas Martin
Deputy Headmaster - Pastoral

Nicholas is from Adelaide, South Australia where he attended the University of Adelaide, earning his Bachelor of Arts in History with Honors, and Graduate Diplomas in International Studies, and Education. He worked in Australian Schools before joining CISCD where he successfully introduced the History program for G and A group of CISCD. He enjoys reading, video games, history and dinosaurs.

Deepa Shahi
Head of Upper School, Teacher of Economics and Business Studies
Economics

Deepa is from India and has many years of experience of teaching and management in international schools. She has taught in Hangzhou and Shanghai schools. Deepa is specialized in teaching Economics and was the Head of Business, Economics and Accounting in CISCD before taking on her role as Key Stage 5 Academic Coordinator. Her passion remains Economics, having received her BA and MA degrees in the subject. She also earned a master’s degree in English. Her teaching qualifications include a Bachelor of Education, a PGCEi with Merit from Nottingham University and CELTA from Cambridge. She is a qualified yoga instructor and enjoys taking part in a range of extra-curricular activities at school. She has judged high school academic debates and led several school trips.

Russell Bowley

Russell is from the United Kingdom. He received a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature before studying for a Postgraduate Certificate of Education at Loughborough University. He has been teaching more than ten years in the UK, Canada and Japan. In addition to his lifelong loves of reading literature and philosophy. He likes to spend his free time listening to music, playing guitar, and playing chess.

Barbara Lee

Barbara is from England. She has certificates of BEd (Hons) Physical Education and Geography, TEFLYL. She is also an International Mountain Leader, Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader, and has qualifications in Outdoor First Aid. She is also a Hockey Level One Coach, Athletics Assistant Club Coach and Basketball Preliminary Coach. She used to teach Physical Education and Humanities in secondary schools and private schools in England. Her international teaching experience includes Italy and Norway, working as Head of Physical Education and leading the Duke of Edinburgh Award. She has also worked at a Language School in England teaching EAL and Sports and worked as a Mountain Guide leading adults and children in countries in Europe, America and Asia. Her personal hobbies are Running, Cycling, Swimming, Kung-Fu and Tai Chi as well as learning Mandarin. During the vacations Barbara likes to travel.

Sudharsan Ramesh

Sudharsan is from India. He has Postgraduate qualifications in Physics and Marketing Management. He also has a Bachelor of Education and M.Phil Physics. He has been teaching IGCSE & A Level Physics for the past 14 Years. He was Senior Physics Teacher (India, Qatar), Head of Physics (Saudi Arabia, China). He loves to play cricket and percussion instruments, and engage in volunteering Environmental conservation activities.

Tobias Oyugi

Tobias is from Kenya and earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computing. Then he completed a Diploma in Teaching and Learning from Cambridge University with a focus on International Education. Later he did a Masters’ Degrees in Monitoring and Evaluation concentrating on Systems Evaluation at the University of Nairobi. He has taught in International Schools in Kenya, Cameroon and the Seychelles. For the past 12 years, Tobias has served as Key Stage Coordinator, Director of ICT and Head of Department. In his spare time, he loves fidgeting with digital circuit boards and manipulating microcomputers in his Hackers and makers club. He loves reading philosophical books and running.

Lisa Roeck

Mrs. Roeck is an American international teacher who comes to us with twelve years overseas teaching experience, having worked in Korea, Kuwait and Cambodia. She is now in her fourth year working in China. She holds a MA ed in Elementary Education and an MA. ed in Organizational Design and Effectiveness. She is also WIDA and TOEFL certified. She has worked in both American and bilingual schools. She is a mother and grandmother. She enjoys swimming, reading and traveling.

William is from Kenya and has been a science teacher for the past 18 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Nairobi, then joined Kenyatta University for his Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Instructional Methods. He has experience of teaching Physics in both the British and IB curricula. In his spare time, William loves to travel, read, help in community service work and play table tennis.
